Elle est l’épouse d’Ahmosis, le fondateur de <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la XVIIIe">la XVIIIe</st1:PersonName> dynastie. Elle exerça une corégence avec son fils. C’est la première reine à assumer le rôle « d’épouse du dieu Amon ». Avec son fils, ils créèrent la nécropole thébaine (Deir el-Médineh).

A la mort de Séthi II, Siptah été jeune ( 1194 – 1188 av J-C ) donc sa belle mère, Taousert fut la régente. Six ans plu tard Siptah mourut, Taousert fut la seule détentrice du trône. Elle fut soutenue par le vizir Bay, elle gouverna encore 2 ans. Bay eut un grand pouvoir en Egypte, il fut inhumé dans la vallée des rois (VR 13). Elle mourut à 65 ans environ et enterrée dans la vallée des rois (VR 14) dans celle que Sethi II avait fait creusé pour lui et elle.
